As Senior Director Customer & Data, you will report directly to the CIO of ING Belgium and lead a team of 500+ FTEs, consisting of internal specialists and external consultants across Brussels, Romania, India, and Manila.
You will be responsible for strategic execution, technology delivery, governance, and leadership in one of the bank’s most critical domains.
This role requires a top-tier IT leader who excels in stakeholder management, global technology governance, and leading large-scale transformation programs. With a budget exceeding €60 million, you will shape the future of ING’s data strategy and ensure its alignment with both local and global ING Group priorities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technology & Business Strategy Execution
• Lead the technological vision and execution for Customer Data, Data Management, Analytics, Know Your Customer (KYC), Enterprise & Content Automation, and HR/Finance Reporting.
• Drive enterprise-wide data governance, ensuring compliance with DORA, GDPR, and the AI Act.
• Lead ING Belgium’s AI, cloud, and data analytics initiatives, optimizing automation and machine learning capabilities.
• Oversee complex integration projects that bridge local ING Belgium systems with global ING Group platforms.
• Ensure seamless execution of critical security and risk management programs.
2. Leadership & People Management
• Inspire and manage a highly diverse, multi-location team of data engineers, IT architects, analytics specialists, and project managers.
• Foster an environment of high organizational health and performance, ensuring strong team dynamics and professional growth.
• Act as a change leader, maintaining high engagement while ensuring execution excellence.
• Develop succession planning and mentorship initiatives to build leadership pipelines within the IT organization.
3. Stakeholder & Relationship Management
• Act as a senior point of contact between ING Belgium and ING Group’s central IT and data leadership.
• Negotiate and manage large-scale IT service contracts with key partners such as Cognizant and other global service providers.
• Ensure a strong partnership with tribes, board members, regulators, and global IT counterparts.
4. Financial & Resource Management
• Oversee an annual IT budget of €60M+, ensuring cost-efficient use of resources.
• Optimize in-house vs. outsourced development strategies, leveraging ING’s offshore teams while maintaining internal capabilities.
• Establish KPIs for financial risk, IT risk, strategic delivery, diversity, and carbon footprint impact.

Profiel
We are looking for an exceptional IT leader with deep expertise in data, cloud, and AI strategy. You have:
• 20+ years of IT leadership experience, including managing managers and driving large-scale technology programs.
• Strong background in data & AI technologies, with experience in governance, compliance, and security.
• Global exposure, with experience in offshoring, large-scale IT operations, and vendor management.
• Experience handling €50M+ IT budgets, optimizing costs while delivering high-impact projects.
• Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, comfortable engaging with C-level executives and regulators.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of Dutch or French is an advantage.
