Function
Responsibilities
As an Automation Engineer, you are responsible for the management and optimization of automation systems within the production environment. You ensure that machine software remains up to date and that technical issues are resolved quickly and efficiently. In addition, you play a crucial role in improving existing processes and enhancing operational safety.
You support both the maintenance team and ongoing or new projects with your technical expertise and contribute to structured knowledge transfer within the company. You are also the first point of contact for automation-related issues and work proactively on structural solutions to prevent recurring problems.
Tasks
Troubleshooting & Support – 30%
- First-line support for malfunctions
- Active presence on the shop floor, coordination with production/maintenance
- Use of Topdesk ticketing system
Structural Problem Solving & Improvement Projects – 25%
- Solving recurring or complex problems with a long-term focus
- Collaborating with production and maintenance to improve efficiency and robustness of existing systems
- Creating work instructions to support the maintenance team (e.g., sensor calibration)
Management & Support of Automation Systems – 25%
- Management of existing machine software and automated systems
- Support for projects, upgrades, or new installations
- Acting as backup for Brecht Mahieu in the context of OT security
Documentation & Knowledge Management – 20%
- Creating technical manuals and work instructions
- Documenting electrical schematics and processes
- Supporting training and knowledge sharing initiatives
Profile
Experience and Background
- Initial relevant experience in the automation of industrial processes
- Knowledge of Siemens PLC/SCADA systems (S7, TIA, WINCC)
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and perform troubleshooting
- Familiarity with Siemens frequency converters
- Knowledge of EPLAN is a plus
- Knowledge of other programming languages (C#, ASP.NET, HTML, JavaScript) is an asset
- Basic knowledge of databases (SQL) is a plus
