Staff Platform Engineer @ Enhesa Lissabon

AMJC04455

Functie

The Staff Platform Engineer acts as a strategic hybrid of a technical visionary and a high-velocity platform builder. This is not a position for legacy infrastructure management or ticket-taking. The engineer must treat product developers as internal customers, possessing a strong "platform-as-product" mindset with opinionated, pragmatic views on cloud-native delivery. Enhesa is undergoing a transformative scale-up growth phase. The engineering wing is moving toward a high-seniority model to scale modern cloud infrastructure, optimize efficiency, and completely remove delivery friction.

The role operates across a 60/40 delivery-to-leadership split at the intersection of cloud architecture and developer automation:

  • Platform Vision & Roadmap Management (60% Primary Deliverable Focus): Evolve the core internal developer platform (IDP) vision. Partner with engineering leadership to translate technical goals into clear roadmaps. Design and build capabilities using tools like Backstage, Humanitec, or Port.

  • Golden Paths & Reusable Workflows: Lead the design and adoption of standardized service templates, opinionated configuration defaults, and automated workflows to build deployment consistency across squads.

  • Developer Experience (DevEx) Optimization: Treat DevEx as a first-class metric. Actively eliminate friction points in onboarding, APIs, CLI tools, and documentation.

  • Developer Experience Measurement: Establish engineering telemetry frameworks using DORA metrics, the SPACE framework, internal developer feedback loops, and platform adoption analytics.

  • Transversal Leadership (40% Leadership Focus): Coach and mentor platform engineers in deep "platform thinking." Lead cross-functional discovery workshops, write Architectural Decision Records (ADRs), and champion cloud-native standards across the wider 80–100 person tech group.

Profiel

Background and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (Master’s degree preferred).

  • Minimum of 8 years in software engineering, with at least 4 years exclusively focused on building internal developer platforms (IDP), cloud-native infrastructure, or scalable developer tooling.

  • Technical Stack Expertise:

    • Advanced Kubernetes, Terraform, and Public Cloud (with an explicit preference for Azure).

    • Hands-on experience with tools/concepts like Backstage, Humanitec, Port, Crossplane, or custom Kubernetes operators.

    • End-to-end automation design using Azure DevOps, GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins

    • High proficiency in languages such as Go, Python, Shell, Java, or .NET.

  • Bonus Points: Proven experience significantly altering, sunsetting, or replacing a major underperforming legacy platform system; or working within highly regulated software environments.

Core Competencies

  • Proactivity: A resilient "Can Do" attitude combined with a customer-service mindset toward internal developers. Able to resolve cross-departmental friction autonomously.

  • Influence & Leadership: The ability to influence engineering culture and drive pattern adoption through technical merit and mentorship rather than direct management authority.

  • Communication: Exceptional written communication skills; capable of producing precise technical documentation, roadmap narratives, and clear Architectural Decision Records (ADRs).

  • Pragmatism & Conviction: Confident making and defending opinionated technical decisions using concrete data, while remaining flexible enough to pivot when business metrics shift.

  • Languages: Full fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory. Knowledge of Portuguese is a valuable asset.

Aanbod

  • Job with a Purpose: A direct opportunity to build software supporting global environmental sustainability and human safety.

  • Scale-up Environment: Join a rapidly growing global software company backed by active PE investment on its journey toward becoming a tech ‘unicorn’.

  • High Impact & Visibility: Play a foundational role shaping the engineering culture, developer workflows, and technical architectures of an evolving B2B cloud platform.

  • Modern Tech Adoption: Enjoy full corporate and budgetary backing to experiment with and implement the market's latest platform engineering patterns.

  • Flexibility & Balance: Competitive compensation package combined with a flexible hybrid/home-working policy designed to support a healthy work-life balance.
