Function
The main goal of the role is to act as a bridge between business needs and IT solutions, helping to guide and shape the development of digital tools and dashboards that support decision-making and operational efficiency across Komatsu. This role is really a hybrid position, sitting right at the intersection of business analysis and data reporting, with a strong connection to both the Mendix and Qlik ecosystems.
Mendix
On one hand, you’ll be heavily involved in Mendix-related projects (from a business analysis perspective). Your focus within Mendix projects will be to translate business requirements into clear, actionable specifications (user stories), working closely with developers, business stakeholders, and functional teams. You’ll help define what the application should do, how it should behave, and how it should support business processes. Since launching their Mendix journey in 2019, Komatsu built up an impressive ecosystem of more than 25 Mendix applications, and they’re still growing. These apps vary widely in scale and complexity—from simple mobile applications used for internal financial calculations, all the way up to KOMES, their manufacturing execution system that all factories across Europe rely on. The Mendix team is constantly approached by different development groups within the company, each with ideas for digitalizing their processes. The appetite for fast, flexible solutions is huge, and Mendix has proven itself as the go-to platform to meet that demand.
Qlik
At the same time, the role involves a strong focus on Qlik Sense, where you’ll be responsible for building dashboards and reports. These will be primarily based on data coming from Mendix applications. You’ll be switching between conversations with business stakeholders, writing functional specs, and then digging into data to create useful visualizations.
Ultimately, the purpose of this role is to ensure that Komatsu’s digital tools (Mendix) and business insights (Qlik) are aligned with the needs of the organization. You'll be helping shape smarter tools and better decisions, all while working in a collaborative, cross-functional team.
Tasks and responsibilities
Mendix projects will take priority, especially during active development cycles or strategic programs. In those phases, you might be spending 70% of your time on project work (leading meetings, gathering and validating requirements, steering stakeholders, etc.), 20% on story-writing and spec building, and about 5–10% on testing and UAT coordination. When things are quieter on the Mendix front, you’ll shift gears and spend more time in Qlik, working on reports and dashboarding tasks.
Business Analysis & Process Improvement
- You’ll be the go-to person for key users when it comes to improving systems or processes. That means understanding their daily work, identifying pain points, and translating their needs into clear, functional requirements—using structured analysis and modeling techniques.
- Your job is to challenge assumptions, bring clarity, and ensure IT solutions align with real business needs.
Solution Design & Implementation
- Working with internal engineers or vendors, you’ll help turn business needs into technical solutions.
- You’ll track requirements throughout the project lifecycle, define non-functional needs (like performance and security), and make sure everything fits within Komatsu’s IT landscape.
- Your input helps guide design decisions and ensures long-term, scalable results.
Project Management & Risk Control
- For smaller projects, you’ll take the lead on planning, stakeholder coordination, and driving progress.
- You'll manage scope changes, help assign responsibilities, and make sure risks are flagged early with mitigation plans in place.
Testing & Post-Go-Live Support
- You’ll coordinate testing phases to make sure solutions meet expectations. That includes integration tests, user acceptance, and feedback collection. After go-live, you’ll support users, help with training, and ensure everything runs smoothly.
- You’ll also help formally close out projects and assess how they performed on scope, timing, and cost.
Operational Support & Qlik Reporting
- You’ll use existing data sources to build user-friendly dashboards and reports—helping the business make informed decisions through clear visual insights.
Profile
- At least 2 years of working experience in a similar / relevant role;
- Experience in business analysis / good knowledge of business processes and concepts;
- First experience with project management methodologies (e.g. Prince 2) & software development methodologies (e.g. Agile Scrum), business process modeling techniques;
- Wide and general appreciation of ICT technologies and trends;
- Solid understanding of IT-related topics;
- Experience building dashboards or working with reporting tools (Qlik, Power BI, Tableau, etc.) is a plus but not mandatory;
- Any familiarity with low-code platforms such as Mendix is a plus;
- Strong analytical skills;
- Proactive, self-starting attitude;
- Team player with strong communication skills;
- Drive and enthusiasm;
- Curiosity and eagerness to learn;
- Cultural sensitivity;
- Proficiency in both English and Dutch is preferred. However, proficiency in English alone is also acceptable.
