Function
The Data Manager is responsible for managing data as a strategic business asset within VMBSO. The role ensures that data is reliable, well-managed, and AI-ready, enabling decision-making, operational efficiency, and value creation for the organization. Through proactive collaboration with business teams, the Data Manager fosters data ownership, improves data utilization, and enables analytics and AI use cases for both structured and unstructured data.
Because the Data Manager focuses on driving tangible business value, they develop a deep understanding of VMBSO's business model, including its commercial, operational, financial, and sustainability drivers.
Tasks & responsibilities:
Data Strategy & Vision
- Vision & Roadmap: Defines the data and AI strategy, roadmap, and KPIs in alignment with group objectives.
- Advisory: Advises executive leadership and IT management on investments in platforms, AI, and capabilities.
Data Governance & Policy
- Framework & Policy: Establishes the governance framework (ownership, AI usage, retention, and compliance).
- Governance Forum: Chairs the forum driving organization-wide data quality and data utilization.
Data Architecture & Platform (AI-Ready)
- Modern Data Platform: Integrates structured (ERP, CRM) and unstructured data (Office 365, file servers) into a single, manageable environment.
- BI & AI Foundation: Delivers scalable BI and AI building blocks (RAG, vector stores, authorization frameworks) and supports the ERP transition.
Value Creation & Business Partnership
- Business Impact: Translates business requirements into data products and AI use cases (including agents) with a clear ROI.
- Culture & Network: Builds data literacy across the organization (training, community) and maintains internal and external networks.
People Management
- Team Leadership: Coaches and sets priorities for the VMBSO data team (focusing on performance and talent development).
Profile
- (Master’s) degree in a relevant field and/or a proven track record in a similar role.
- 8 to 10 years of experience in the data domain, including 3 to 5 years in a strategic or leadership position.
- Strong asset: Demonstrated experience in shaping data governance within a complex, multinational context.
- Extensive experience with master data management and governance.
- Experience building or modernizing a data platform that is ready for AI applications.
- Knowledge of ERP systems, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, and the broader BI landscape is a major plus.
- Affinity with or experience in the industrial, manufacturing, or construction sector is a plus.
- Strong communication skills in Dutch and English; French and German are a nice bonus.

Your primary workplace will be the HQ office in Deinze (Ghent region), with occasional travel to other company locations—mainly in France and Germany—as part of the role. A hybrid working model is in place, allowing for two days of working from home per week.
