Function
As a Principal Engineer at Azumuta, you will hold a key position within a fast-growing scale-up that is transforming the manufacturing industry worldwide. In this role, you are both a builder and a guide: you combine deep, hands-on software engineering with strategically steering the technological future of the platform. Together with the CTO and the lead engineers, you will map out the course to build an intelligent, proactive layer of AI agents on top of the reliable MES platform.
Your impact will be felt immediately when tackling the organization's biggest challenges. In terms of product and AI innovation, you will help make the platform smarter. You will help build AI agents that autonomously detect anomalies, make recommendations, and generate work instructions faster. The platform is thus proactively prepared for the future of manufacturing, where humans and robotics work together. At the same time, you will ensure that the platform remains scalable for the broader market by choosing a smart, generic architecture, minimizing the risk of client-specific customization for enterprise accounts.
Within the software development process, heavy emphasis is placed on leveraging AI. You will take the lead in further expanding agentic development practices, enabling the engineering team to build real value for clients substantially faster. Together with the rest of the team, you will establish the technological rules of the game and elevate the way of working to a higher level of operational maturity and continuous improvement. This is a role for a pragmatic engineer with a healthy hunger for impact who loves a can-do mentality: not endless talking, but drawing lines together, building, and getting smarter by doing.
Responsibilities and Tasks
Build: Hands-on Engineering & Architecture
- Designing complex workflows: Translating real-world, complex industrial challenges from the manufacturing industry into scalable, user-friendly full-stack software solutions.
- End-to-end stack ownership: Hands-on development and optimization of applications across the entire stack (Node.js, TypeScript, React, PostgreSQL, cloud infrastructure, and CI/CD pipelines) with a focus on maximum performance and maintainability.
- Building enterprise-grade SaaS: Actively contributing to the architecture of a resilient, highly secure SaaS platform that scales to thousands of concurrent users worldwide.
- Agentic software development: Designing and implementing complex, high-quality AI features and autonomous agent structures that permanently anchor Azumuta's technological edge in the market.
Guide: Technological Leadership & Team Governance
- Steering and collaboration: Mapping out the long-term architecture and technical standards within R&D in close consultation with the CTO and with active input from the engineers. You take the lead here, foster collaboration, and ensure that the chosen technological direction is broadly supported by the team.
- Pioneer in Agentic AI Development: Coaching, inspiring, and guiding the team (7 engineers) in further expanding agentic development practices within the software development process to increase operational leverage.
- Increasing operational maturity: Developing modern engineering practices, such as a rock-solid testing culture, rigorous code reviews, and transforming the release cadence.
- Predictability and scalability: Challenging scope, estimations, and planning decisions to increase delivery predictability and scale productivity as the team grows.
- Talent coaching: Serving as a mentor for the engineering team and purposefully contributing to the growth of internal potential into highly delivery-oriented technical leadership roles.
Profile
Experience and Background
- Proven SaaS experience: You have deep and demonstrable experience building, scaling, and maintaining a complex SaaS product in a real production environment.
- Operational resilience: You are familiar with the dynamics of large-scale cloud environments and have first-hand experience with incident management, outages, and making the right operational trade-offs between speed and quality.
- Engineering practices: You have successfully guided engineering teams to a higher level of operational maturity and have a strong track record in optimizing CI/CD pipelines, test automation, and rigorous code reviews.
- Hands-on & tech stack agility: You remain closely connected to the code, dive hands-on into the architecture when needed, and are able to quickly master Azumuta’s tech stack (Node.js, TypeScript, React, PostgreSQL, cloud infrastructure).
- Architectural leadership: You have experience independently designing and determining cross-team software architecture and translating complex, non-deterministic business problems into clear technological rules.
