Function
As Team Lead DevOps, you are responsible for managing and facilitating the PaaS team. You ensure that daily operations run smoothly, that team members are motivated and developed, and that the objectives of the team and the organization are achieved. This role focuses on people management, process optimization, and stakeholder management (both internal and external), with the aim of establishing a self-managing, high-performing team that works agilely and provides optimal support to the internal product teams.
You will contribute to strengthening the team in a complex, cross-cultural environment with direct management of five engineers in Belgium. You will help achieve the strategic objectives around automation, observability, and optimization of CI/CD processes within TVH's internal platform landscape. The Team Lead ensures that the team's daily operations run smoothly, that there is continuous improvement in quality and speed, and that incidents are proactively minimized. The focus is on people management and coordination, with minimal hands-on technical tasks.
Tasks and responsibilities
People management and team development (±40%)
- Managing and coaching a team of five Belgian engineers.
- Facilitating individual growth and team development through continuous feedback, on-the-job coaching, training, and performance management.
- Recruiting and onboarding new team members in collaboration with HR and external partners.
- Creating an open, safe, and motivating work environment in which innovation and collaboration are central.
Operational management and coordination (±25%)
- Daily planning, prioritization, and coordination of teamwork in accordance with agile principles and sprint goals.
- Actively resolving blockers and escalations, monitoring the quality, timing, and costs of deliveries.
- Reporting progress, bottlenecks, and risks to IT management.
- Building a self-healing team with a high degree of operational maturity.
Process optimization and quality improvement (±15%)
- Setting up and improving processes related to automation, monitoring, incident management, and security awareness.
- Implementing ‘First Time Right’ and preventing rework through better collaboration and testing processes.
- Developing governance and compliance around observability and platform management.
Technical coordination and strategic input (±10%)
- Translating strategic objectives into technical projects and team initiatives.
- Coordinating collaboration with other IT teams (such as Infrastructure-as-a-Service) and external suppliers.
- Supporting the technical roadmap with knowledge of Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins, Kubernetes, Docker, GitLab, Zabbix, Grafana, and Google Cloud.
Stakeholder management and communication (±10%)
- Acting as a link between business, product teams, external partners, and internal IT teams.
- Clear, diplomatic, and straightforward communication about technical and organizational issues, both in Dutch and English.
- Monitoring cross-cultural sensitivity and collaboration with offshore teams.
Profile
Experience and background
- Extensive experience in DevOps principles and tooling (Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins, GitLab, Kubernetes, Docker).
- Technical knowledge to understand and manage processes and solutions without having to be hands-on all the time.
- Experience with agile working, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and cloud/on-premise infrastructure.
- Demonstrable experience with people management and leading (international) teams.
- Asset: Managerial experience within IT/DevOps.
- Willingness to travel occasionally
