As the Mobile Team Lead, you are essentially building and safeguarding the face of itsme® for close to 8 million users. The mobile application must visibly radiate absolute safety, high quality, and reliability, while maintaining an exceptionally frictionless and easy-to-use user experience. Your main target is to ensure users feel safe and are protected against scam and fraud vectors.

This is a hybrid role, Guide & Build, where you will split your responsibilities between people leadership and hands-on engineering. You will have the autonomy to introduce fresh ideas, shape the team's way of working, and clear technical bottlenecks. Since the core apps were built recently (2022) with pure Swift/UI Kit and Kotlin, you won't be fighting archaic legacy code. Instead, your focus is on driving architectural refinement, expanding automated testing, and scaling top-tier agile engineering practices.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • People management and leadership: Directly lead, coach, and support a team of 4 iOS and Android developers. Take full ownership of the performance cycle, 1-on-1 career track alignments, motivation, and HR management pipelines (JML – Joiner/Mover/Leaver, holiday approvals, objective setting, promotions, and conflict resolution).
  • Hands-on mobile development: Design, build, and maintain features for the itsme® iOS application, contributing directly to a secure, high-impact digital identity product. Take ownership of code quality, performance, and security, ensuring best practices are applied across the mobile codebase.
  • Release management and CI/CD: Drive mobile application release cycles within the App Store and Google Play Store constraints, overseeing continuous delivery automation (e.g., GitHub Workflows, build pipelines).
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Collaborate with product owners, designers, and backend developers to translate business requirements into scalable mobile solutions. 
  • Impediment and dependency management: Actively remove impediments and manage cross-team dependencies, ensuring smooth and predictable delivery.  
  • Agile evolution and pod transformation: Define and evolve team topology, ways of working, and agile practices to maximize delivery efficiency and team autonomy. Drive the organizational change tracks to smoothly orchestrate the transition of the mobile competence center into stream-aligned product Pods.
  • Team culture and continuous improvement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement, ownership, and collaboration within the mobile team. 
  • Strategic advisory and scaling: Partner with leadership and stakeholders to support itsme’s transformation and scaling journey, adapting processes and structures as needed.  
  • Testing automation: Guide the team toward building strong, automated mobile testing coverage (a key 'Should' objective) to shield application stability.
  • Hiring and onboarding: Partner closely with recruitment to interview and onboard exceptional talent as the engineering department continues to scale.

Profiel

Background and experience

  • Native mobile development: At least 5 years of proven experience developing native mobile applications. Strict iOS baseline expectations include Swift and UI Kit proficiency (Objective-C is a plus). If coming from an Android baseline (Kotlin), you must exhibit an excellent, high-level conceptual understanding of iOS architecture patterns.
  • Team management: At least 2 years of experience as a team lead, engineering manager, or tech lead, with hands-on exposure running core management milestones (JML processes, objective alignments, one-on-ones, holiday approvals). Experience as a first-time lead (1-2 years) is welcome if backed by strong coachability.
  • Complex and regulated environments: Proven track record operating in highly complex environments with multiple teams and strict technical, security, or regulatory paradigms (e.g., banking, fintech, insurance, telecom, or public identity ecosystems).
  • Release and CI/CD mastery: Familiar with the practical constraints of shipping apps through the official stores and experienced with modern continuous integration pipelines (e.g., GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins).
  • Application design: Experience designing mobile architectures, mocking, API contract definitions, and managing non-functional requirements (NFRs) tied to networking fallacies. Backend framework awareness is a 'could'.
  • Mobile testing automation: Hands-on experience or a strong operational vision for integrating automated test coverage (e.g., XCTest, Appium) into the mobile loop.
  • Agile methodologies and change: Practical familiarity with Team Topologies concepts and driving organizational change management tracks.

  • Change and agile management: Skilled in guiding teams through structural transitions (e.g., from component teams to autonomous product Pods) and adapting processes where needed. 
  • Stakeholder and conflict management: Strong communication skills to align technical requirements with business goals and smoothly resolve internal or cross-team dependencies. 
  • Problem-solving and resourcefulness: Proactive in identifying delivery bottlenecks, managing external constraints, and structural impediment removal.  Continuous Improvement: A natural drive to challenge the status quo, implement feedback loops, and foster team collaboration and ownership. 

Languages

  • Fluent in English.
  • Dutch or French proficiency is a plus.
