OT Cybersecurity Manager

AMCB04311

Function

As an OT Cybersecurity Manager at VYNCKE, you make sure that the machines, control systems and networks behind VYNCKE’s energy installations are protected and can keep running safely. You translate cybersecurity requirements into clear guidelines, practical solutions and hands-on improvements that fit the reality of an industrial environment. By building standards, documenting best practices and helping engineers apply them, you bring structure and security to an area that is still in full development.

You work closely with Automation Engineers, Architects, IT colleagues and external partners to make sure all the entities and sites follow the same secure way of working. You help the organization prepare for new regulations coming in 2027 and you make cybersecurity an integrated part of every project, from early design to final start-up.

This role ensures that VYNCKE develops a safer, more consistent and future-proof OT ecosystem across the group, where both technology and people can continue to grow. By providing clear responsibilities, strong compliance, and effective cybersecurity management, it contributes to reliable installations, sustained customer trust and the further OT maturity and overall growth of VYNCKE.

Tasks & responsibilities

The role combines strategic ownership with hands-on execution, covering the full spectrum of OT cybersecurity activities:

Security analysis & framework development (40% of the workload)

  • Work Package Ownership: Acts as WPO, meaning they are responsible for defining, coordinating and delivering the cybersecurity-related work packages within projects, ensuring that objectives, timelines, and quality requirements are met.
  • Risk assessments and vulnerability reviews: identify weaknesses in OT systems, networks, PLCs, SCADA environments and field devices.
  • Security standards and guidelines: Develop OT cybersecurity frameworks, procedures and best practices that become the reference for all engineers.
  • Compliance preparation: Translate upcoming regulatory requirements (e.g. 2027deadlines) into concrete actions and ensure VYNCKE’s installations move toward full compliance.
  • Security architecture input: Review and challenge automation architectures, propose secure designs and define which security devices (firewalls, segmentation, etc.) should be introduced.

Collaboration & knowledge sharing (30% of the workload)

  • Cross-functional teamwork: Work closely with automation engineers, architects, IT colleagues, external consultants and suppliers to align all parties on one secure way of working.
  • Taskforce participation: Actively contribute to the IT/OT taskforce and help broadcast cybersecurity knowledge across departments.
  • Documentation and communication: Produce clear documentation, whitepapers and instructions so teams know how to apply cybersecurity requirements.
  • Tool and technology evaluation: Assess potential OT security tools and technologies and advise on what should be introduced at VYNCKE.

Hands-on technical support & site involvement (20% of the workload)

  • Configuration work: Implement practical security measures such as network segmentation, secure device setup and basic OT security tooling.
  • Site visits: Spend time on VYNCKE installations (Belgium and abroad) to understand the systems, validate security measures and ensure guidelines are implemented correctly.

Troubleshooting (10% of the workload)

• Analyze and resolve security-related issues in automation systems (such as PLCs, SCADA, or network components).

Profile

  • A master’s degree in engineering, computer science, industrial automation or a related technical field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar OT, automation or cybersecurity role.
  • Solid experience in OT automation environments — understanding how PLCs, SCADA, industrial networks and field devices work in practice.
  • Hands-on experience with technologies such as Siemens or Rockwell (bonus), industrial communication protocols and OT network components.
  • Practical experience with network segmentation, firewalls, secure configurations or other security measures in industrial systems.
  • Ability to translate complex technical risks into clear guidelines, standards and documentation.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills; able to challenge assumptions and propose improvements.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with engineering, IT, vendors or external consultants.
  • Comfortable with site visits and hands-on inspection of industrial installations (approx. 15–20% travel).

The OT cybersecurity maturity starts from nearly zero, giving the candidate the chance to shape the foundations, processes, and standards almost entirely anew.

  • Full ownership & responsibility:
This role owns the security processes, documentation set, architecture principles and the roadmap – taking initiative, defining priorities and pushing a new domain forward.

  • Strong involvement in coordination and governance:
The candidate works actively in the TaskForce, aligns closely with internal stakeholders and manages broad cross-department communication.
  • Wide stakeholder landscape:

From engineering teams to IT, suppliers, consultants and project managers, the position requires strong stakeholder management and the ability to bring multiple parties together around a consistent cybersecurity strategy.

OT Cybersecurity Manager

VYNCKE NV is a family business based in Harelbeke, Belgium, active since 1912 in the design and construction of industrial energy plants, which generate green energy from biomass and other renewable sources. The company operates globally and has subsidiaries in Germany, Brazil, the United States, China, and Singapore, among others. With a turnover exceeding 100 million euros and approximately 400 employees, also known as 'Vynckeneers', VYNCKE belongs to the top of the international market for sustainable energy solutions.

History and growth

VYNCKE was founded in 1912 by Louis Vyncke, a blacksmith from Gullegem. In its early years, the company focused on producing steam boilers for the textile industry. Over time, it evolved into designing energy plants that convert biomass into thermal energy and electricity. VYNCKE’s expertise in building tailor-made power plants was further strengthened by the development of innovative technologies, such as the dynamically water-cooled step grate, which the company patented in the 1970s. Today, the company is led by the fourth generation, Peter and Dieter VYNCKE, who have further developed the family business into a global player in the clean energy sector.

Services and technology

VYNCKE provides tailor-made energy plants that use a variety of fuels, such as wood waste, agricultural residues, and industrial waste. The technologies include:

  • Steam boilers and hot-water boilers: for industrial applications.
  • Thermal oil systems: for processes requiring higher temperatures.
  • Combined heat and power plants: which generate both electricity and heat.
  • Multimedia energy plants: for various fuels and applications.

These installations are used worldwide in sectors such as the food industry, the wood-processing industry, and the paper industry. VYNCKE also provides solutions for the combustion of industrial waste, which is becoming increasingly important in the broader context of the circular economy.Today, the company is led by the fourth generation, Peter and Dieter VYNCKE, who have further developed the family business into a global player in the clean energy sector.

Sustainable entrepreneurship and innovations

Sustainability is at the core of VYNCKE’s operations. The company invests in innovative technologies and sustainable energy solutions to reduce its ecological footprint. A recent example is the project in Luxembourg, the largest contract in VYNCKE’s history, in which a wood-waste-powered energy plant was installed for a data center. This data center is considered the first green data center in Europe. VYNCKE continues to work on developing new technologies that help companies transition to sustainable energy sources, further strengthening its position as a leading player in the sector.
