As an IT/OT Engineer, you are responsible for the management, support, and development of industrial automation systems and IT/OT infrastructures, in close collaboration with internal teams and external partners.

Your main responsibilities include:

  • Execute and manage IT/OT projects in close collaboration with the existing IT/OT team, aligned with architecture, manufacturing, and business processes.
  • Implement, maintain, and optimize IT/OT systems, including networks, PLCs, and full industrial automation setups.
  • Design, implement, and maintain SCADA, MES/MOM, LIMS, and other automation applications (e.g., FactoryTalk, Siemens WinCC, OPC, OSIsoft PI, Intrion).

Profile

The ideal candidate for the IT/OT Engineer position is a technically experienced professional who can bridge the gap between industrial automation and IT. We are looking for someone who is proactive, communicative, and results-driven.

Core qualifications:

  • Education: An industrial or civil engineer with a specialization in automation, electromechanics, and IT.
  • Experience: proven experience in direct or indirect support of control systems (PLC, MES, PI, etc.) and automation. A solid technical background and an ability to analyze problems in detail, even if you do not personally program the solution.

Technical Knowledge:

  • Experience with SCADA systems e.g.Rockwell and Siemens.
  • Basic knowledge of network infrastructure (fibers, network schemes), active network components, virtualization (HyperV), and OEM system integration.
  • Understanding of IT systems like Linux and Windows.
  • Knowledge of data interfacing, data migration, and security.

Key competencies

  • Project Leadership: ability to lead projects, from analysis and team assembly to managing external partners. This is the primary purpose of the role.
  • Problem-solving: ability  to conduct in-depth technical analysis to identify the root cause of an issue (e.g., a time-out in a system) without necessarily being the one who writes the code to fix it.
  • Communication: strong communication skills are essential for collaborating with internal colleagues, external specialists, and various departments (production, IT, etc.).
  • Language skills: Dutch and/or French, and fluency in English is essential.

Offer

  • Strategic and ambitious role: The position is a strategic role in a fast-growing company. There is a lot of ambition such as to double capacity at the Waregem site, which means the engineer will be at the heart of many significant projects.
  • Technical freedom and impact: The role offers freedom of choice in many projects. While some standards are set by the parent company McCain (e.g., Cisco for telephony), Lutosa has a lot of local autonomy. The engineer can work with and select partners, and the role's scope can be tailored to the person's skills.
  • Growth and career development: The company is part of the larger McCain group, which offers opportunities for training and career development.
  • Family-oriented and value-driven culture: Lutosa maintains a family spirit and is described as an open, value-driven company.
  • Dynamic work environment: The engineer will join a stimulating work environment with dynamic and passionate teams. The company is technically ambitious, and there are no technical limitations on what can be achieved.

IT/OT Project Engineer @ Lutosa

Lutosa is a Belgian family-owned company with over 40 years of experience in the potato processing industry. Founded in 1978 in Leuze-en-Hainaut by the Van den Broeke family, Lutosa began as a potato trading business and later became a specialist in frozen and chilled potato products. Since 2013, Lutosa has been part of McCain Foods, a global leader in the potato processing industry. Despite this international growth, Lutosa maintains its family-oriented character and remains proud of its Belgian roots.

With around 1,000 employees, two production sites in Belgium, and sales offices across five continents, Lutosa combines local expertise with a global reach. The company works closely with over 300 potato growers, most of whom are located near its production sites, ensuring sustainable, high-quality raw materials. Up to 70% of its potatoes are sourced locally, minimizing the company’s ecological footprint. Lutosa’s agronomy experts carefully select the best potato varieties for each product based on taste, baking properties, color, and agricultural performance, testing new varieties annually for potential future applications.
