IT System Operations Engineer @ Komatsu

AMDA04559

Function

Komatsu Europe International aims to deliver high-quality, reliable, and secure workplace and infrastructure services to empower its business operations across Europe. To maintain operational continuity and support its ongoing digital transformation, the organization relies on smooth, secure, and well-governed ICT services. Within the European ICT department, the goal is to bridge operational needs with advanced infrastructure expertise, ensuring that technical capabilities directly support business activities without unnecessary friction.

In this context, the primary purpose of this role is to serve as the critical connection point between first-line service desk operations and the specialized infrastructure competence centers. By doing so, the position aims to improve the overall efficiency of ticket resolution and incident management, reducing the burden on high-level engineers while elevating the baseline capabilities of front-line support. Furthermore, the role exists to drive continuous operational improvement by translating complex system issues into actionable knowledge, standardized guidelines, and clear procedures for the wider IT organization. Ultimately, this role supports the organization's overarching compliance and security standards—such as ISO 27001—by introducing greater oversight, structure, and alignment across cross-functional infrastructure teams. By serving as a proactive, adaptable bridge across IT domains, the position enables the department to operate more cohesively while fostering sustainable internal career progression within the company.

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Ticket Triage & Triage Support: Perform initial incident triage, analyze incoming second-line support tickets, and correctly diagnose whether problems can be resolved directly or need to be routed to the appropriate competence center.

  • Issue Resolution & Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve hardware, operating system, and system software problems independently to ensure smooth daily operations.

  • Process Documentation & Knowledge Transfer: Write clear manuals, standard procedures, and operational guides (e.g., aiming for 10–20 procedures in the first year) to delegate routine tasks down to the first-line Service Desk.

  • Cross-Competence Coordination: Identify recurring issues across multiple competence centers (such as Azure, VMware, or Active Directory) and collaborate with specialized engineers to achieve consensus on solutions.

  • System & Network Monitoring: Monitor system performance logs, track network operations, and assist with root-cause analysis during system outages or critical incidents.

  • System Maintenance & Administration: Perform start-up, shutdown, patching, and disaster recovery procedures while keeping hardware/software inventory and network maps up to date.

  • Compliance & Governance Support: Ensure technologies, procedures, and access controls align with governing security policies, ISO 27001 standards, and (J)SOX compliance requirements.

Profile

  • Educational Background: Holds a Professional Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or equivalent expertise gained through relevant work experience.
  • Relevant Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar IT infrastructure or IT operations role, ideally having worked in a first-line Service Desk environment.
  • Core Infrastructure Knowledge: Demonstrates a broad understanding of foundational IT infrastructure, including compute, storage, networking, and security.
  • Technological Affinity: Hands-on familiarity or strong affinity with key enterprise technologies, including the Microsoft suite (Azure, Active Directory, M365), VMware, Nutanix, Cisco, and Citrix.
  • IT Frameworks & ITSM Tools: Familiarity with IT service management frameworks (e.g., ITIL, ticketing tools like Halo) and compliance frameworks such as ISO 27001 and (J)SOX.

Offer

  • Great Career Growth Opportunities: This is an ideal entry-level or growth position where you are given the time over the first 3 to 5 years to discover where your interests lie, allowing you to later transition into a specialized competence center or a Lead System Engineer role.

  • Strong Liaison & Key Role: You are a crucial link within an international IT organization, overseeing the broader IT landscape and connecting first-line support directly with infrastructure experts.

  • Continuous Learning & Innovation: You will have ample opportunity to work with modern IT tools and the latest technologies (including Azure, VMware, Nutanix, and Halo ITSM), as well as leverage smart solutions such as AI.

  • Flexibility & Work-Life Balance: Enjoy a hybrid work setup with a fixed team day on Tuesdays and the flexibility to work from home on the other days.

  • International Dynamics with minimal travel: Work within a European context where travel is kept to a minimum, limited to occasional visits to data centers (e.g., in the Netherlands) or site meetings.

  • Open & People-Centric Culture: Join a straightforward, honest, and flexible team where transparency, reliability, and room to learn are core values.
