Head of Software Engineering @ ProPlanner

AMKB04549

Function

The overall objective of the Head of Engineering role is to build, structure, and continuously optimize a mature, scalable, and people-oriented engineering organization at ProPlanner. In a phase of strong international expansion and robust revenue growth, this position serves as the crucial lever to transform the software engineering team from a fast-growing group into a well-oiled, sustainable organization. As the direct right hand of the CTO, you take full ownership of the human and operational capital within engineering, allowing technical leaders and architects to focus entirely on the technological vision. You directly add value by bringing structure, stability, and predictability to the way of working, without compromising the software company's agility and innovative drive. By guiding individual growth paths, team cohesion, and attracting the right talent, you create an environment where engineers perform at their best and commit to the organization long-term. As a bridge between engineering, product management, and customer success, you ensure clear expectations and streamlined collaboration across all departments. You raise overall delivery quality and credibility to a higher level, which is essential to meet the high demands of large international clients. In this way, the role makes a decisive and strategic contribution to realizing ProPlanner's European ambitions and overall scalability.

  • People Management & Coaching: Taking full line- and people-management responsibility for approximately 15 to 20 engineers, the Team Leads, Tech Leads, the Technical Architect, and the QA Lead (including 1-on-1s, evaluations, feedback, and individual growth paths).

  • Hiring & Talent Acquisition: Taking a lead role in attracting new talent, including refining job profiles, conducting job interviews, making hiring decisions within the headcount plan, and ensuring successful onboarding.

  • Team Composition & Capacity Allocation: Managing team composition and skill mix, as well as distributing engineering capacity across teams and explicitly defining trade-offs in close consultation with Product Management.

  • Uniform Processes & Standards: Establishing, securing, and monitoring common ways of working across teams, such as the Definition of Done, code reviews, release procedures, and incident follow-up.

  • Escalation Point & Blockers: Serving as the central point of escalation for Team Leads regarding cross-team obstacles and structurally removing underlying root causes.

  • Quality Assurance: Safeguarding the balance between delivery pressure and technical quality by ensuring that addressing technical debt receives a dedicated place in the schedule.

  • Reporting & Budget Management: Reporting to the CTO on the status of engineering (capacity, delivery, quality, turnover), identifying needs, shaping solutions, and managing the allocated training and tooling budget.

Profile

  • Educational Level: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in an IT or business-related field, OR an equivalent level acquired through relevant practical experience.

  • Relevant Work Experience: A minimum of approximately 5 years of experience in a leadership or coordinating IT role (e.g., as Team Lead, System Engineer with coordination duties, or Helpdesk Lead).

  • ITSM & ITIL Knowledge: Proven experience with professional IT service management (ITSM) and the structured implementation or application of ITIL processes (incident, problem, and change management).

  • Leadership Style: A coaching and hands-on leader who can motivate and structure a team while pragmatically rolling up their sleeves on the service desk when necessary.

  • Communication & Stakeholder Management: Excellent interpersonal skills and strong adaptability to build bridges between IT and the care floor ("The House") as the central point of contact.

  • Flexibility & Context: Willingness to participate in the ICT on-call schedule according to the applicable rotation, where experience within a healthcare environment or complex 24/7 environment is a strong plus.

Offer

  • Real Mandate & Impact: You get full autonomy and decision-making authority over the hiring plan, team composition, process design, as well as your own training and tooling budget.

  • Growth in a Successful Scale-up: You join a financially robust, fast-growing Belgian SaaS market leader (20-25% annual revenue growth) with international ambitions and prominent clients such as Jaguar Land Rover.

  • Strong Technical Foundation: You build upon an experienced team of driven engineers, skilled Tech Leads, a Technical Architect, and a QA Lead who carry the functional and technical decisions.

  • Attractive Remuneration Package: A market-competitive gross salary complemented by an excellent package of fringe benefits (a freelance/self-employed collaboration is also open for discussion).

  • No-Nonsense & People-Oriented Culture: You enter an informal, pragmatic work environment with a leadership team strongly committed to personal development, short communication lines, and a healthy work-life balance.

  • Flexible & Hybrid Working: A modern work and work-from-home policy with the necessary support for an ergonomic and efficient home workspace.

Both local fleets with a few dozen cars and large international players with thousands of vehicles rely on the platform daily. Well-known names in the automotive sector that trust the software include prominent dealer groups such as D'Ieteren, Dockx, and brand dealers like Jaguar Land Rover. ProPlanner distinguishes itself in the market by seamlessly integrating its software with existing Dealership Management Systems (DMS) and other business applications. Beyond the pure technology product, the team also provides personalized support and strategic consulting.
