The IT Services department consists of 7 different departments and is led by Paolo Varaldo, IT Group Director. The IT Development team consists of 30 people, of which 12 internal employees in Hoboken, 5 onsite contractors and rest of the persons near shore in Belarus and in Ukraine.
 

The purpose of the Manager of IT Development role is to manage the day-to-day operations of the development team and be the leader, coach and inspiration for the team of skilled software developers. You and the team provide an IT development service to all areas of the business. The role will also have a strong strategic focus and will want somebody who can contribute to the transformation of the organisation's application landscape and delivery of the Digital Strategy across the company.
You are responsible for delivering the pipeline. During execution, you are responsible for ensuring all priorities are met and all stakeholders are kept informed about progress.
You help shape the strategic roadmap of the software development landscape for our organisation (architecture, technology stack, …)

 

  • As the manager of the IT Development team you are leading a team of internal and external developers maintaining the corporate (web based) applications, websites and the ERP & WMS platform.

  • You are responsible for hiring (and firing) decisions.

  • You have budget responsibility (OPEX and CAPEX) and you manage the partnerships (e.g. with EPAM for software development).

  • Together with the product owners you are responsible to manage the team and to plan the development and deployments activities. 

  • You are involved in design, development and DevOps, continuous integration and continuous delivery.

  • You are responsible for the overall solution and IT software architecture of this domain. 

  • Together with the other team leads and managers, you make sure the tools to automate and streamline the development and release process are functional. 

  • The day to day operations of the entire software development platforms are part of your role. 

  • You help shape the strategic roadmap of the IT software development landscape for our organisation.

 

Technology stack:

Front-end => The front-end is all about React and Adobe Experience, managing the customer experience. Vaadin is used as a full-stack web app platform.

Back-end => Java development building spring boot based micro-services that can be consumed by the website, CRM application and other services (at the moment there are   almost 100 different microservices all running in the AWS cloud).

 

Profiel

  • You have a bachelor or master’s degree in Computer Sciences, Engineering or equivalent by experience.

  • You have relevant (minimum 5 years) experience combining IT development with organizational responsibilities.

  • You have experience in managing a team (existing team of +/- 12 FTE, 12 EPAM remote developers and 5 local contractors).

  • You have technical background/experience with IT development: design, development, DevOps, AWS, microservices, Java, React, Adobe, CI/CD….

  • Experience with the SCRUM methodology.

  • You are able to quickly build a good business understanding.

  • Experience with working with decentralized teams, including external and remote partners is preferred.

  • You take initiative and ask questions if necessary, to find a quick solution.

  • You’re a team player and create a positive note.

  • You enjoy working in a dynamic, fast pacing company and international environment.

A.S. Adventure Group (Global HQ Hoboken) is an international omnichannel and multi-brand retail chain that focuses on outdoor and active leisure experiences. 

The company started as American Stockhouse (hence the abbreviation A.S.) in Antwerp, where the Lathouwers family sold  military equipment that got left behind by the American liberators after WW II, such as tents, sleeping bags and household items. In 1995, Emiel Lathouwers realized that leisure activities, adventure travel and connection with nature were gaining in importance in an increasingly stressed society, thus he invented a completely new concept with a unique combination of travel, outdoor, fashion and action products: the first A.S. Adventure store in Schoten was born.

In 2000, the international A.S. Adventure Group was founded through collaboration with the British chain Cotswold Outdoor and the Dutch chain Bever.

Since then, the Belgian retail chain grew into a fast-growing retail group with more than 3,000 employees and 256 stores spread across Belgium and Luxembourg, the Netherlands, France, the UK and Germany – the largest outdoor market in Europe.
