Tasks and responsibilities:

Security Controls and Management

As a Security Engineer, you are pivotal in implementing, managing, and maintaining various security controls and measures, including Identity and Access Management (IAM). This entails not only ensuring the presence and documentation of key security protocols such as access control and cloud infrastructure security but also the daily maintenance of crucial aspects such as the security of Active Directory and communication channels like email and Teams. Simultaneously, you are the guardian of the Microsoft Secure Score, ensuring meticulous asset inventories and smooth lifecycle management of systems and applications. Additionally, you keep a keen eye on adhering to security policy documents and procedures. However, your role extends beyond mere monitoring; you also delve into security logs, taking prompt and effective action based on your findings. And when incidents occur, you're the one who identifies and manages them according to the tight protocols you've helped establish.

Security Implementation and Monitoring

Furthermore, you're responsible for testing and implementing security patches, monitoring vulnerabilities, and configuring security tools such as IDS, IPS, firewalls, and DLP. You're involved in hardening EndPoints and systems, as well as managing antimalware software on various systems.

Security Controls and Management:

  • Ensuring the presence and documentation of security controls.
  • Daily maintenance of various security controls, including:
    • Access control, including user account lifecycle.
    • Active Directory security.
    • Entra ID security.
    • Azure Cloud infrastructure security.
    • Email and Teams communication security.
  • Monitoring the Microsoft Secure Score.
  • Monitoring asset inventory.
  • Monitoring lifecycle management of (operating) systems and applications.
  • Monitoring security policy documents.
  • Monitoring security processes and procedures.
  • Checking security logs and taking any necessary actions.
  • Identifying and managing security incidents according to established procedures.

Security Implementation and Monitoring:

  • Testing and implementing security patches.
  • Monitoring vulnerabilities.
  • Configuration of security tools such as IDS, IPS, firewalls, DLP.
  • Hardening of EndPoints.
  • Hardening of systems and networks.
  • Management of antimalware software (EDR) on EndPoints and servers.
  • Monitoring device compliance.


Background and experience:

  • You have already built a successful career in the field of ICT and security, and you are well-informed about the latest trends in the market. Having experience with relevant technologies and knowing how to implement them securely is crucial:
    • Active Directory/ADFS
    • Microsoft Entra ID, MFA, Conditional access
    • Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) / Intune
    • Microsoft Defender Suite
    • Azure
    • VMWare
    • Fortinet
    • Cisco
  • You possess knowledge of security frameworks such as Cyberfundamentals, NIST, CIS, and ISO27001. Knowledge of NIS2 is an additional asset. You have a good understanding of security methodologies, best practices, and industry standards. It's advantageous if you hold cybersecurity-related certifications (such as Microsoft Identity and Access Administrator, Microsoft Certified Cybersecurity Architect Expert, Azure Security Engineer, Fortinet Certified/NSE, CCNA, etc.).


  • Highly accurate and structured; you excel in maintaining an overview.
  • You have a signaling role: you communicate effectively with internal stakeholders within the Digital departments.
  • Ability to think outside the box and challenge solutions.
  • You always prioritize the common good.
  • You are resilient to stress and adapt easily to a dynamically changing environment.

Language Skills:

You can express yourself fluently in Dutch and have good (passive) technical knowledge of English.

Security Engineer @ Aquafin

Aquafin – headquarters in Aartselaar – is a leading company in Flanders responsible for water treatment and sewerage system management. It was founded in 1990 by the Flemish Region with the aim of expanding, operating and pre-financing the water treatment infrastructure in Flanders. Aquafin is a public limited company whose sole shareholder is Vlaamse Participatiemaatschappij NV.

With the aim of preventing flooding and reducing ecological damage, Aquafin strives to make wastewater and stormwater systems future-proof. By managing 325 sewage treatment plants, Aquafin treats the wastewater of as many as 86% of Flanders, significantly improving the quality of watercourses. Besides treating domestic wastewater, Aquafin also offers water treatment solutions for industry through its subsidiary Aquaplus. It is itself responsible for designing, building and operating water treatment plants. These plants use advanced treatment techniques to remove various pollutants from wastewater. The treated water is then safely returned to the natural water cycle.
