LAVA stands for "Logistic and Administrative Auction Association", in short the umbrella organisation or cooperative of fruit and vegetable producer organisations in Belgium. These producer organisations all carry the Flandria quality mark, which guarantees products of the very best quality, sustainably grown by family businesses.
There are five producer organisations (POs) in Belgium that are shareholders of LAVA. In addition to LTV and BFV, there are also the more well-known shareholders BelOrta, REO Veiling and Coöperatie Hoogstraeten. It is also these last three large POs that are jointly investing in the IT digitisation project with the aim of being more connected to the market. These POs defend the interests of more than 2600 fruit and vegetable growers.
LAVA offers support to the POs in the following areas:
- Marketing (sales) of Belgian fruit and vegetables
- Quality control and management of specifications
- Coordination of scientific research
- Marketing of the 'Flandria' fruit and vegetable label
